TIPS FOR GOLFING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Whether you are looking for a fun weekend hobby, or are serious about becoming a professional golfer, this sport is made for everyone. However, if you would like to really enhance your skills and have long term plans to excel in this activity, you will need all-year-round experience.

The typical golfing season runs for 9 months in a year, missing out winter due to poor weather conditions effecting game play. Despite this, there are still many things you can do to make sure that you continue to practice your skills all-year-round.

SUMMER

Through the peak season, you should still be aware of how to make sure your golfing experience remains safe during all-weather types. With humidity and extreme heat being two of the most common conditions during the summer months, it is important to consider the following things whilst you play golf:

Stay hydrated

As tempting as it is to have a nice cold beer in the sunny weather, alcohol is known to dehydrate the body. That is why it is important to bring plenty of water along with you whilst you play golf.

Don’t forget sunscreen

Most golf courses provide very little shade and, especially in the sun, this can be quite unpleasant. Not only will you feel the heat a lot more, but you will also need to apply sunscreen so that you don’t get burnt whilst you are on the course.

Dress appropriately

It is important to keep cool when playing golf in Summer. Luckily the dress code for this sport is quite flexible when it comes to adapting to various weather conditions. We recommend loose fitting clothes with breathable fabrics.

Plenty of Rest

Whether you rest before your tee time or whilst waiting for your turn, it is always important to make sure you take time out to re-energise when it gets hot. Tiredness is a form of dehydration so by combining plenty of rest with drinking lots of water, you will be in the best condition to play golf.

WINTER

Although it isn’t as common to play golf during winter, it is still important to make sure you prepare for the colder conditions if you do.

Layer Up

As there is little to no shelter on a golf course, you will feel the cold, wind and rain a lot more than normal. Because of this, it is important to wear plenty of layers including a scarf and hat when on the course. From swinging the club, to putting, your hands will get very cold which could affect your performance. It is therefore recommended to bring pocket warmers so you can warm your hands in between turns.

Exercise

It is always tempting to hire a golf cart and move from one hole to the next more quickly to avoid the rain, wind and cold conditions. However, walking through the course as you play will help to keep you warm and will also give you more energy to stay performing the best you can.

Prepare your Equipment

When golf balls become cold, they struggle to travel as far as if they were a warmer temperature. To avoid this affecting your game, you should try and keep them as warm as possible before playing. Alternatively, you could use lower compression balls as these will provide you with a better performance during colder conditions.

Alternative Options

Some extreme conditions may completely prevent you from playing outside. This is where indoor golf is perfect! These facilities will allow you to practice your skills at a local indoor golf centre, ensuring that you prepare for the golfing season.
